Armenia intrinsically is blessed to receive excellent grape and wine. Armenia is considered one of the oldest and independent centers of grape cultivation and wine making. For Armenians vine is a symbol of peace and prosperity. Long summers with vivid sunlight and high temperatures contrast with cool nights encourage a lengthy growing season. The rocky soils rich in limestone help maintain moisture for the vines during the intense summer heat while the slow ripening ensures the development of the natural sugars which balance the fruits characteristic acidity. Vines do not stand winter colds and in some regions of Armenia the vines are covered with soil, this process is called ‘aygetagh”. Grape harvest since ancient times is a feast and traditionally the vines are blessed. Thus, in Armenia everything made from grape is blessed.
